CANADA・バンクーバーで現地調査を実施（2025年2月）

立命館大学産業社会学部永野ゼミ災害復興エリアマネジメント班が、バンクーバーのダウンタウンにあるJAPAN TOWNの調査を実施しました。

【概要】
カナダのバンクーバーには、かつて1万人以上の日系人が暮らしていました。その名は「JAPAN TOWN（日本人街）」。
第二次世界大戦により、日系人は強制送還されました。その際、日系人の持っていた建物はその多くが売られてしまい、戦後に日系人は元の場所に帰る事が出来なかったようです。
それから長い年月が流れ、現在のJAPAN TOWNは、薬物依存者（更生施設含む）とアンホームの集まるエリアとなっております。
バンクーバー発祥の地とされるGasTownより歩いて10分のエリアに、多くの人が目を背けてきた大きな社会的課題があります。
今回、このエリアを何とかしたいと強く思うカナダや日本の皆様と共に、ゼミとして何ができるか手探りでの活動を開始しました！何か行動しないと変化は起こせません。永野ゼミは常に挑戦するゼミです。それを体現する活動が、ご縁のあるカナダの地でも実施できる事に感謝をしております。

In Vancouver, Canada, there used to be a community of over 10,000 Japanese Canadians. It was called "JAPAN TOWN".
During World War II, the Japanese Canadians were deported. At that time, many of the buildings owned by Japanese Canadians were forced to be sold.After the war, they were unable to return to that place.
Many years have passed since then, and today JAPAN TOWN is an area where drug addicts (including rehabilitation facilities) and homeless people gather.
In an area just a 10-minute walk from GasTown, which is considered the birthplace of Vancouver, there is a major social problem that many people have turned a blind eye to.
This time we have started to explore what we can do as a seminar together with people in Canada and Japan who really want to do something about this area! If we don't take action, we can't make a difference. The Nagano seminar is a seminar that always takes on challenges. We are grateful to be able to carry out activities that embody this in Canada, a country with which we have a connection.
